Winter Weather Policy

2013-01-24

It's winter and the weather can be a factor. Here is the MSHL guidance .

With winter weather on the horizon, its best to remind our MSHL partners of the MSHL weather policy.

(1)  Generally, if the rink is open, we're playing.  However there are a few exceptions to the rule.

(a)  If Easton HS is closed, and you're supposed to play Easton - the game is postponed.  They're varsity and must follow the Talbot County School System rules.

(b)  If you're a club team and you're subject to your school's rules on playing if the school is closed, then you should follow the school's rules.

(c)  If the roads are so bad to present a threat to the safety of the travelers, then by all means, stay home.

(d)  If public safety officials have asked / told people to stay off the roads, then it may be a good idea to follow their recommendations.

Make your decision(s) on game day, not the night before based on a weather forecast that may (!) be wrong.

Communicate with your team (manager, coach, officials).  Let them decide if the game should be played.  They will notify the other team (in time to prevent the other team from leaving for the rink) and the officials.  When deciding to postpone a game, the availability of ice time to play the make-up may be a factor.

In the end, use common sense.  The league wants the games to be played, but not at the cost of one of our families getting into an accident travelling to/from the rink.

If you do travel, remember, this is not a road rally, where you get points for the quickest trip.  Leave a little bit earlier and take your time.  I know you're a good driver.  But there may be a person out there who is not.  As the old saying goes, "Hurry Slowly".

Joe
