USA Hockey has inaugurated a new program - SafeSport.
The mission of the SafeSport program is "The safety of its participants is of paramount importance to USA Hockey. This includes not only on-ice safety, but also off-ice safety in any part of USA Hockey’s programs."
The SafeSport web page link is located here
The SafeSport handbook will be distributed (2 per school) at the 2012 Annual Meeting.
Here are the salient points:
There is a SafeSport video that MUST be viewed by the SafeSport coordinator for the conference and by each team manager.
Further, USA Hockey has tightened the screening requirements -- no team personnel will be allowed near minor children unless they have undergone a background screening (good for two years).
(1) team coaches
(2) team managers
(3) locker room monitors
(4) anyone else who has access to minor children.
The current list of screened coaches and volunteers is found here:
If you are not listed, you cannot be in contact with any MSHL players under 18.
